Civilian shooters converted these to at least two different center fire cartridges: 11.7x42R and 11.7x45.5R. The cartridge was developed in Denmark in 1888 using round-nosed bullets with 4 grams (62 gr) of gunpowder, and adopted the following year by Denmark in the Krag–Jørgensen M89 rifle.

This rifle had been modified, like most others, to 11.7x56R and modified with a reamer to 45-70 by the importer.
