There are better rifles in 7.62 than the SLR, my mate has a G3 which is better, but I am not going to admit it to him.

SA80....bit delicate in the earlier models, more accurate, less stopping power but equally lethal in the end, automatic option, can carry vast amounts of ammunition. The SLR has longer range, but most firefights occur within a 300 meter range. The L85/SA80 is shorter, making it advantageous in tight spots. If however I wanted to put Terry out of my misery when he's lurking in the rocks about 500 yds away, then a GPMG would do fine or a 50 cal would be better.

If you want firepower then the SA80 wins in my view, if you want to stop them dead in their tracks then the SLR is the toy of choice. ...but that makes it easy to stab yourself in the foot. But those who have used both weapons on opps, what do you think? Wherever I've gone there has been an old boy explaining how the SA80 is a BB Gun and is part of the down fall of the British Army. I am a dyed in the wool SLR fan, but I would much prefer the SA80 for FIBUA, for obvious reasons. It will if you drop it. I'm not sure that the SA80-fitted bayonet will reach the floor. No i haven't fired the SLR But..... i think the SA80's better, its lighter, less prone to stoppages, can carry more ammunition for it, less cumbersome.
